Intuit × OpenAI: Shaping the Future of Financial Intelligence

Intro: Intuit x OpenAI - Financial Intelligence Apps on ChatGPT
Challenge + Response

Role: Principal Product Designer
XPA Teams > PDX (Design Systems), QuickBooks, TurboTax, MailChimp, Credit Karma, OpenAI
Launched: 2026

I led a company-wide design initiative to define how Intuit shows up in emerging AI ecosystems, bringing together design across multiple product offerings to create a unified and seamless experience within ChatGPT. As Intuit expanded into AI-native platforms, I drove the design strategy, interaction models, and experience principles that guided how our products integrate into conversational environments—establishing a cohesive foundation that reduced fragmentation and ensured a consistent, high-quality user experience across the ecosystem.

I also partnered closely with platform, design system, recruiting, and marketing teams to scale this vision—introducing AI-powered design workflows, influencing enterprise AI hiring efforts, and helping position Intuit as a leader in AI-native product design. This work helped move Intuit from early experimentation to a more aligned, scalable approach for building AI-first experiences across products and surfaces.

Part I: The investigation begins

I leveraged my background in AI to proactively define how Intuit could participate in emerging LLM ecosystems, pitching early concepts for what “financial intelligence” could look like within OpenAI’s framework. I was brought in at inception as part of a small, senior strike team responsible for shaping this vision from zero to one. I led foundational discovery—combining user research, prompt exploration, and rapid prototyping—while facilitating cross-functional workshops and design sprints to align product, engineering, and leadership around a clear opportunity space. This phase focused on translating the capabilities of large language models into meaningful user value, defining early mental models for conversational finance, and establishing a north star for AI-native, done-for-you financial experiences.

Part II: Design

I led end-to-end experience design across Intuit’s ecosystem—QuickBooks, TurboTax, Mailchimp, and Credit Karma—to deliver a cohesive, AI-native interface within ChatGPT. This required driving alignment across multiple product domains to create a unified interaction model grounded in user intent, trust, and clarity. I defined scalable design patterns for conversational workflows, structured outputs, and assistive actions powered by LLMs—enabling users to move from questions to outcomes with minimal friction. By anchoring the experience in a customer-first, task-oriented framework, we transformed complex financial processes into intuitive, guided interactions, effectively operationalizing AI to help users get critical financial jobs done with speed and confidence.

Part III: Ship It and Repeat!

I continue to lead the evolution of this platform as AI capabilities rapidly mature, pushing into advanced paradigms like agentic workflows, persistent memory, and deeper personalization. This is an ongoing, iterative system—where I partner across design, product, and engineering to continuously refine the experience, integrate emerging AI capabilities, and scale impact across surfaces. My focus remains on staying at the leading edge of applied AI—ensuring we’re not just adopting new technology, but thoughtfully shaping it into reliable, human-centered experiences that set the standard for intelligent financial assistance.
